Growing in the Southwest

G & M Agricultural Supply Greenhouses       The Southwest is an amazing combination of climates ranging from desert regions with high temperatures and little rain to high elevations with cold winters and short summer seasons. High winds are common in the spring and there are a wide variety of insects that can hamper growing operations. Summer storms are sporadic, but hail is often present and can cause significant crop damage.

We sell products that provide protection for all of the above conditions, as described below:

High summer temperatures - Shade cloth, with many shade factors and various colors, is available; and bulk rolls or custom panels are also available. Pre-fabricated shade structures work very well for protecting plants from our blistering summer sun.

G & M Agricultural Supply Greenhouses Low winter temperatures - Frost fabric can protect or moderate the effects of low temperatures and dry winds on plants. This fabric is available in various weights and in many widths and lengths.

Insect problems - Row Covers provide excellent protection from insects. These row covers also come in various weights and in several widths and lengths.

High winds - Wind fencing, made of shade cloth, can reduce wind speed from 50 percent up to 83 percent, depending on the density of the shade cloth. Sand bags work well for holding row cover in place during spring's high winds.

Hail storms - Hail netting provides protection for fruit trees and other high-value crops that can be damaged by hail. This netting also provides approximately ten percent shade.

To obtain the best overall growing environment for your plants, a greenhouse is the answer. We will work with you to determine what type of greenhouse structure and equipment will best fit your needs, and we will provide these products at highly competitive prices.
